Role of Reception
Our receptionists are usually the first point of contact and are here to help you. They have a lot of information to hand and in most cases will be able to help with your enquiry and ensuring you see the most appropriate clinician. When contacting the surgery you will be asked to provide details of your symptoms / reason for calling. Our receptionists are trained in care navigation to assist you to get the specialised help you need in some cases directing you to other services rather than the surgery team. If you do not wish to discuss your symptoms with the reception team you can decline care navigation but once speaking to a Clinician you may still be directed elsewhere if the Clinician feels your requirements will be better cared for by an external specialist team. Anything that is discussed with the receptionists or any other member of the team is treated in strict confidence.
Medical Students
We have trained future doctors and general practitioners for many years As a practice we are committed to the teaching of this countries future doctors.
For much of the year we have Medical Students from the University of Sheffield attached to the practice. These students are from both levels 4 and 5 of the medical course.
You may find them in consultation with doctors and nurses at the surgery, occasionally they may also be with other members of staff.
As a patient of Field Road Surgery we may sometimes ask you if you will talk to the students about your medical condition or consent to be examined. It is of course your right to ask not to see the students, they will not be offended.
